Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

Female Genital Mutilation is a serious violation of human rights that has profound physical, psychological, and emotional consequences for those affected. As counsellors, you play a critical role in safeguarding individuals at risk, supporting survivors, and ensuring that the necessary interventions take place. Through this training module, Tina Hesse shares her knowledge and experience. This training is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to identify, respond to, and report cases of FGM appropriately while maintaining a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approach. How This Training is Structured This module consists of: 📖 Informative sections with case studies, survivor testimonials, and legal guidelines. 🎥 Video and audio resources 📌 Guidance on referrals and multi-agency working, including key contacts and support organizations. We recognise that this topic can be emotionally challenging. Please be mindful that some of the material may be triggering, we encourage self-care and reflection. We invite you to seek supervision and peer support when working with FGM cases. Let’s begin by exploring what FGM is and why safeguarding is essential.
MEET YOUR FACILITATOR

Tina Hesse

Tina Hesse 

Tina is a passionate advocate for the rights, safeguarding, welfare and wellbeing of children and young people. 

Tina is the Early Interventions Service Manager for CAMHS Jersey, previously the Safeguarding Partnership Board Pool trainer and has delivered safeguarding unit accreditation to level 2 and 3 CACHE childcare practitioners in training At Highlands Further Education College, as well as to have led the level 3 residential childcare practitioner training and as a co-deliverer for the Level 5 Residential childcare Managers course. 

Tina has been a module leader for Inclusion and Children's Rights And Welfare for the University of Plymouth in Partnership with the University College Jersey. 

Tina helped to create a Wellbeing Service for the Education Department of Jersey, has supported various charities Including recently consulting for the Jersey Women’s Refuge to shape their Children and Young People’s therapeutic and wellbeing service and as of January has just taken to role as the Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Support Services

Tina has a Masters Degree in Applied Positive and Coaching Psychology, is a Mindfulness Meditation teacher, Integrative Sand play therapist, and Self Love coach. Tina has worked with children, young people and adults to promote holistic health and wellbeing to promote flourishing and creating their best possible self and life.
