Counsellor Safeguarding Series

PREVENT and Radicalisation

Prevent and radicalisation training equips counsellors with the knowledge and skills to identify and respond to signs of radicalisation in individuals. This training aims to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism. Counsellors play a crucial role in safeguarding vulnerable individuals by recognizing early warning signs, understanding radicalisation pathways, and offering appropriate interventions. Training covers: Understanding Radicalisation: How individuals become vulnerable to extremist ideologies. Recognising Warning Signs: Changes in behaviour, language, or associations that may indicate radicalisation. Safeguarding Responsibilities: The legal and ethical duties of counsellors under the Prevent Duty. Intervention and Support: How to engage with at-risk individuals and refer them to support services like Channel, a multi-agency intervention program. This training helps counsellors create safe, supportive environments while balancing safeguarding with ethical counselling principles.
